I started learning pixel art in 2020 to give my game jam teammates a helping hand, and quickly picked up my own style. There's a lot of work that I'm still super proud of in that style:
Eventually, though, I started to explore different styles and take inspiration from/study the art styles of some of the pixel art games I love the most.
hyper light drifter
I was introduced to it by a composer I'd worked with - he asked me to mimic the style for a rhythm game he was planning to make. I picked up and practised the glowy-technology-polygon aesthetic he was looking for. You can see a concept-to-finish for the actual assets below.
The character was something I worked on much later, after having bought the game and spent every evening for two weeks playing it. <3
